The Lauzon company, a forestry resource developer and processor, is continually seeking to optimize its processes and maximize the use of harvested wood. This results in technological advances that can reduce or eliminate GHGs that NEL-i is able to value in the form of carbon credits.
“In the past, we had a hard time finding a buyer for the transformation residues from our mills. Today, we are striving to capture every cubic metre and value the fibre in all its forms,” says Alain Durand, General Manager. “Carbon markets are creating new opportunities for recovery, including energy and sequestration potential. With the support of NEL-i, we are already actively involved in this market.
“The potential avenues for forest biomass valorization are numerous and will play an important role in decarbonizing the economy,” believes David Beaudoin, president of NEL-i. “Lauzon is at the forefront of the development of these types of climate solutions and it’s exciting to witness and contribute to them.”
Lauzon’s projects and offsets join a diverse list of Quebec, Canadian and international projects offered by NEL-i. These credits are made available to companies with a serious decarbonization plan, and willing to offset a portion of their carbon footprint. “Our clients want to achieve carbon neutrality. It’s a challenge with technological, operational and financial issues that require careful planning. Our Climate Action Plans incorporate an offset strategy with a long-term vision. The credits from this project, and our partner’s future projects, can be part of that strategy,” adds Mr. Beaudoin.
