NEL-i announces the laureates of its 2021 call for projects

We believe that our values redefine business and that the companies that embody them will be the most successful. All of our activities are aimed at fostering ethical growth and the sustainable use of resources.

Genesis of the NEL-i call for projects
Taking action on the values we hold dear is in fact much more important than simply promoting them. NEL-i takes action by requiring its partners to make firm commitments to the environment and to support communities.

This is why, again this year, NEL-i is committed to investing 1% of its sales, at least 15% of its net profits AND an amount taken from an internal carbon tax at the rate of $110/t CO2e.

Feedback on the applications
NEL-i would like to thank all the applicants in its 2021 call for projects. The objectives of this call were to:

  • Promote the emergence and deployment of clean technologies;
  • Support the realization of projects that contribute to the UN’s sustainable development goals
    development goals of the UN;
  • Encourage social innovation and initiatives with a positive impact on the environment
    and communities.

The applications were numerous and the awarding process very rigorous. Nearly twenty projects were studied by the NEL-i selection committee.

The 2021 winners
The Mouvement volontaire pour le reboisement (M-VR) is a non-profit community organization that is involved locally in the construction and operation of a first socio-educational nursery in the commune of Abricots in Haiti. This nursery will be dedicated to the training and sensitization of young people aged 9 to 14 in environmental education, social reforestation and the fight against climate change. They aim to become true community showcases for the environment and socialization spaces for youth.

Viridis Terra International specializes in the field of ecosystem restoration and sustainable management to combat the global problems caused by land degradation. Their activities focus on the restoration of degraded ecosystems, lands and soils, from formulation to implementation, to sustainable management of large-scale forest and agroforestry restoration projects.

Futur Simple, an initiative of the founders of the media outlet Un Point Cinq, is the first hub for the production and dissemination of impactful information in support of climate and environmental action in Quebec. Its mission is to contribute to making climate and environmental action desirable in order to accelerate individual, organizational and collective appropriation. To change mentalities and rally as many people as possible to the environmental cause, the availability of credible and popularized information is a major issue.

Education is a powerful lever and certainly one of the important keys to the climate crisis. The mission of COOP FA and particularly the CARBONE SCOL’ERE project has a significant impact on the new generation. Through the educational project, students will be able to voluntarily conduct home surveys with their families to discover their good eco-responsible habits and those they could adopt. The students will be able to quantify their avoided GHG emissions through a large collective goal with all participating classes.

Congratulations to all the winners!
